Offer security where you can

Moving from unsecured to secured borrowing is usually the largest saving available. A loan against property or a CGTMSE-covered loan for eligible micro and small units can be priced far lower than an unsecured term loan.

Strengthen what lenders see

Lenders reward clean, consistent records:

  • Route business receipts through your current account instead of cash
  • Avoid cheque bounces and EMI delays — even one can affect pricing
  • File GST and ITR on time and keep figures consistent
  • Keep credit card and overdraft utilisation below the limit

Refinance or take over the loan

If your business has grown since you took the loan, another lender may price it better today. A balance transfer or takeover moves the outstanding amount to the new lender. Compare the new rate against foreclosure charges on the old loan and the new processing fee before switching.

Ask your current lender first

Many lenders will review the rate for a good-paying customer, especially if you have a competing offer. It costs nothing to ask.

Common mistakes

  • Never asking the current lender to reprice
  • Keeping high utilisation on credit cards and OD limits
